Rayme walks down the road
All you need is love...
Today we went to a school in Salada, the children were older and some wrote their names on papers so we would not forget them. As we were giving out book bags we noticed that the children would run off quickly and then come back. At first we thought it was so we would give them more stuff but one boy told us it was so we would not take it back to give it to a nicer boy. I gave him a big hug and told him I thought he was a nice boy and that we would see him next year. I so appreciate toilets now...imagine me using a hole in the back yard (stop laughing it maybe the exercise we all need). Everyone loves Raymond and call him Grandpa, I just nod and say he is very old. lol Everything is great we are meeting with a manager from the hotel later to see if we can arrange an inexpensive rate for next year if we have a large group. I have to tell you that we met a women on the road with no shoes and we had only a few pair that filled our last space in the bags, and they were al l the same size, her size she was thrilled we applied antibiotic and bandages to her cuts and off she went in very stylish Liz Claiborne carrying two other pairs. We have been blessed the whole trip. plenty of babies to hold and children to hug we will see you soon.Raymie Continues to Recover
Well great news Rayme is walking and has grown atleast three inches. We were so thrilled to see him come walking down the road. He has two very large scares but was not shy in showing them to us. We gave him a new backpack and a blanket, He does seem to need a brace but we are having a lot of trouble finding one. We visited with Elizabeth and Joel at the church and the hotel let them come last night to go in the pool. They loved the water but not the elevator..it must be a scary thought to get into that small meal box. We took pictures and will share them with you. We stopped at another clinic and gave out the rest of our medicine, we wrote the directions on small pieces of paper in spanish so that she could give them out in small bags instead of the whole bottles. We are so impressed with the people here they are so hard working and friendly. Today we don't go until 3:00 we are going to a new school and then to church. No problems here, we will write again.
Thank you for all your prayers,
Sue and Ray
Another great day in DR
Well another great day 82' and beautiful. We went to the clinic today. The nurse was so happy with everything , she had a waiting room full of women with small children. I was so relieved when she knew just what each medicine was for. I was worried that some of the prescription meds were only half full but she said that many times it takes them a week to even get to a pharmacy so those would be great. We think we have found a secure place to ship things - a man from the church has a small store and we will try shipping to him when we get home. Raymond is doing well. We are a bit tired but everyone's excitement keeps you going. I took some great pictures. Tomorrow I will try and send them. My spanish is not great but so far so good. Wilson and I have developed a sort of game - a cross between charades and pictionary.Mission news from Sue & Ray
Yesterday was church the all welcomed us, there was a cantata it was beautiful.Today we went to Higuey with school supplies and to see Rayme. The children loved the uniforms and all the supplies, we had great fun. They seem to really like Raymond's hair (touching it when he isn't looking). We went to see Rayme, imagine our surprize when they said he was visiting his Grand mother in Santiago, they said they woulld go tomorrow(4hour on the bus each way) to get him. He is walking and they feel so blessed that we all care about him so much. We will go back on Thursday to see him and to bring some asprin to one of the teacher s that has 35 small children in one class.. Wilson's (taxi driver) daughter Michele started school today it was her first day so we went to class and met her teacher. Everyone has been so nice. We went to see a doctor today about the insulin for an elderly women in a village. We had brought insulin with us in a cooler (thanks Santi Family) and the doctor said it will save her life because it is a very poor village and she needs the insulin. We will go to the clinic tomorrow and to the village. We ran into an old friend Juanito today he is from the church he gave me a big bear hug and we will go to dinner at his house one night. The hotel is way more then we deserve..and the weather is 80' with a breeze. Miss you all, thank you somuch for being so supportive touching so many lives is amazing. Praise God! Please keep praying for us Raymond ate some rabbit in a small village today he is really quite brave. He said it tasted like chicken, I had chicken it wasn't chicken ....We will write again tomorrow after the clinic and keep you informed.Printer Friendly Format
