Our pride and joy is our Rotation Model Christian Education Program for children from preschool through sixth grade. Following the children's moment in at 10 o'clock worship, students and teachers leave for class. Our Pryor Wing is decorated like the walled city streets of Jerusalem for an immersion type experience. There's a fountain, a tent and a lighted palm tree! Here, young people study the same topic story for a month or so. Your child will be in a class with friends their age. Based upon a "multiple intelligences approach," each week they rotate to a new workshop to experience story from a different perspective: video or book form, theater, computer story game, cooking, crafts, dance, science or music. Another benefit is that our adult teachers volunteer for a one-month unit with teen assistants. Adults, teenagers and children learn together.
Our Baby Nursery is staffed by adults in a soft-carpeted room that is stocked with changing table, crib, rockers, sanitized age appropriate toys, and state of the art remote pagers! It is available for the 10 o'clock worship hour. E-Mail Sue Begin to volunteer in the nursery. (PLEASE NOTE: A screening and or background check may be required in the near future.)The Adult Class in the parlor Sundays at 9 am. This open-minded class includes Bible study, ethics, theology, history, current events and world religions - just to name a few general topics. We also offer 4-6 week Bible and book studies from time to time. These are often provided both in the evening and daytime. Occasionally we will have a movie series.
Sundays at 9 am we offer Kids for Christ (They currently name themselves "The Cheese Puffs." This is for children from kindergarten to 6th grade. They focus on fun projects, mission, crafts and giving back.
Our Teen Class meets in the church library Sundays at 9 am as well. It is quite active with 10-15 students meeting regularly to engage a variety of topics in discussion.
Every summer our Ecumenical Vacation Bible School brings children together from town churches and the community for five days of exciting activities. Click here for more information and registration.
Adult Church Membership Classes and a mentor-based Youth Baptism Class are offered at least every year.
Youth Group meets regularly year-round. See their web page for more information or contact Sue Begin by clicking on her name. They attend an annual summer contemporary music conference in New Hampshire called SoulFest - this is adult-youth trip is a lot of fun and deeply meaningful.
We also encourage children, youth, adults, grandparents and women to consider the many programs available at Camp Wightman throughout the year. It is very FUN and people return year after year. One week of camp can contain as much as two years of Christian Education. We offer a "campership" program that pays for half the cost of the camp. Please let us know what week and which program your child will attend. The camp also gives a 50% tuition discount to children whose parents serve as counselors, camp coordinators or volunteer staff.
In June and July we offer a single summer class for children during worship - the baby nursery is available too.
PLEASE NOTE:
We are working on a new safe-church, safe-child policy.
We hope to have it in full effect by 2009.
